About the position

Our client, a prominent machinery manufacturing company with over 1,000 employees, is seeking a Senior HR Generalist to join their on-site team in Grand Rapids, MI. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work closely with the HR Director and play a strategic and transactional role in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The Senior HR Generalist will be instrumental in managing all aspects of human resources for the organization, particularly focusing on union-related matters, as they will serve as the key point of contact for 180 union employees. In this position, the Senior HR Generalist will be responsible for managing the union grievance process, ensuring that all grievances are handled efficiently and effectively. They will implement HR policies, programs, and talent management strategies that align with the company's goals. Providing guidance on policy, laws, and corrective actions will be a critical part of the role, as will overseeing employee training programs and managing the Joint Training Committee. The Senior HR Generalist will also drive a performance-based culture by supporting operations management with employee evaluations and ongoing training needs. Additionally, the Senior HR Generalist will ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, manage statewide grants for employee development opportunities, and handle monthly HR operational reporting along with other HR administrative tasks. Responsibilities

  • Manage union grievance process and serve as key point of contact for 180 union employees
  • Implement HR policies, programs, and talent management strategies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 5+ years of well-rounded HR experience
  • 2+ years' experience in a demanding union environment, including leading grievance processes, dissecting union contracts, and managing the relationship with the union
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
