About the position

In this role, you will administer human resources policies and programs, ensuring a balance between employee advocacy and the operational needs of the business. Your primary focus will be on promoting equity, fair treatment, and fostering positive employee relations while ensuring compliance with state and federal employment laws. You will provide comprehensive HR support to a designated client group, focusing on the recruitment and retention of critical talent, continuous performance coaching and management, and proactive issue identification and resolution. Additionally, you will coach and develop leadership skills to enhance decision-making and communication within the organization. You will be responsible for building credible relationships with business leaders to facilitate better decision-making and enhance organizational effectiveness. This position involves solving complex HR-related issues independently, with minimal guidance, and may require you to act as a resource for less experienced colleagues. Your duties will include providing guidance on HR issues, developing new programs to meet management needs, and anticipating long-term HR trends in partnership with business management. You will also assist in formulating objectives for personnel policies and procedures, ensuring that company policies are administered fairly and consistently. Your role will involve advanced employee relations functions, including counseling on job-related conflicts, managing performance issues, conducting exit interviews, and handling sensitive employee investigations. You will coordinate leave of absence programs, conduct training sessions, ensure compliance with HRIS database entries, and assist in payroll processes. Additionally, you may be involved in recruiting and staffing from both internal and external sources, as well as managing bonus plans and budget planning processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to management and employees on human resources issues and employment law.
  • Develop new programs and initiatives to meet management needs.
  • Generate solutions and implement them with input from senior HR teammates.
  • Anticipate and plan for long-term human resource needs and trends in partnership with business management.
  • Assist in the formulation of objectives for personnel policies and procedures and manpower goals.
  • Ensure company policies are administered fairly and consistently throughout the area of responsibility.
  • Effectively communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures.
  • Perform advanced employee relations functions including support and counseling regarding personnel and job-related conflicts.
  • Conduct complex/sensitive employee-related investigations.
  • Handle workers compensation and safety regulations process.
  • Coordinate the administration of all Leave of Absence programs and processes.
  • Conduct open enrollment and other benefits-related programs as needed.
  • Conduct employee and supervisor training including benefits, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entries to the HRIS database.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll entry for designated client group.
  • Perform audit and compliance functions as requested.
  • Maintain employee records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Assist in the management and execution of bonus plans and merit processes.
  • Assist in the annual budget planning process as needed.
  • May recruit and staff from internal and external sources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently while showing judgment, solving problems, and making decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with the public professionally and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrated consultative, coaching, analytical, and project management skills.
  • PC and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws, wage and hour laws, employee relations procedures, staffing and employment practices, and recruitment trends and technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within company required standards.
  • 1+ year experience supporting exempt employees in a retail environment.
  • 1+ year experience using PeopleSoft or Oracle.
  • 1+ year experience with FMLA leaves of absence and HR investigations.
  • PHR or SPHR Certification.
