The Senior Human Resources Manager is a pivotal role within the Metropolitan Council, responsible for advancing strategic initiatives and leading the Occupational Health function. This includes overseeing critical areas such as disability management, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) processes, reasonable accommodations, salary continuance, and both Department of Transportation (DOT) and non-DOT drug and alcohol programs. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer and will be an integral member of the Human Resources Leadership Team, which is tasked with providing direction for the Council's human resources function. This position also involves supervising a team of 11 employees, ensuring that the HR department fosters a work environment where employees are engaged, respected, and equipped with the necessary skills and tools to succeed. In this role, the Senior Manager will participate with HR Leadership and key organizational stakeholders to identify and implement strategic initiatives. This includes developing collaboration strategies to assess needs, build engagement, and ensure accountability for results. The Senior Manager will manage the implementation of various initiatives, overseeing project scope, budget, schedule, communication, measurement, and risk management. Additionally, the role requires providing direction and support for the Occupational Health work unit, particularly in processing family medical leave, disability management, and drug/alcohol testing. The Senior Manager will also act as the official designee for Occupational Health and personnel-related data requests, and will work closely with HR Leadership to identify needs for process improvement and effective communication with Council employees. Current areas of focus for this position include integrating equity principles into HR policies and programs, as well as continuous process improvement. The position offers a flexible hybrid telework arrangement, with the requirement that the candidate's permanent residence be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
