About the position

The Senior IAM Cloud Engineer position at HCA Healthcare is a pivotal role that focuses on enhancing the patient experience through innovative technology solutions. This position is responsible for researching and creating designs for Entra ID and Google Cloud Identity platforms, as well as developing cloud IAM reference architectures. The engineer will implement self-service IAM platforms that empower product teams to utilize services via Entra ID. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Identity & Access Management (IAM) and will be adept at transitioning traditional on-premise patterns to modern, cloud-native architectures. In this role, the Senior IAM Cloud Engineer will collaborate closely with the Principal IAM Cloud Engineer, Security Architecture, Cloud Adoption and Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Development Architecture, Business Partners, and Vendors. The engineer will contribute to the planning and prioritization of the IAM cloud design patterns backlog, new features, and updates that align with HCA's cloud IAM strategy. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and testing new software systems and applications, as well as creating architectural and procedural documentation that adheres to Cloud Governance standards. The position requires a strong understanding of object-oriented programming, familiarity with functional programming, and best practices in REST-based APIs. Experience with agile methodologies, version control (Git), open-source practices, and CI/CD automation is essential. The Senior IAM Cloud Engineer will also establish and maintain solid business relationships, guide product teams in re-architecting applications to cloud-native architectures, and provide training and mentoring to peers and other staff members. This role is integral to ensuring that HCA Healthcare continues to provide exceptional care through innovative technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Research and create Entra ID and Google Cloud Identity platform designs and cloud IAM reference architectures.
  • Implement self-service IAM platforms that enable product teams to consume services through Entra ID.
  • Contribute, plan, and prioritize the backlog of IAM cloud design patterns, new features, and updates.
  • Design, develop, and test new software systems and/or applications.
  • Create architectural and procedural documentation for Cloud Governance.
  • Collaborate with domain architects and business teams to define common uses of cloud IAM.
  • Educate teams and advocate for the secure use of cloud IAM services.
  • Guide product teams through re-architecting applications to cloud-native architectures.
  • Train and mentor peers and other staff members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems.
  • Five or more years of experience in Systems Engineering, Architecture, or Development.
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity & Access Administrator certification.
  • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamental certification.
  • Expert experience in core IAM technologies (federation, directory services, MFA, etc.).
  • Expert experience in Terraform, JSON, and YML or other Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience with Azure or Google cloud native architectures and Platform Services.
  • Ability to adapt and embrace new ideas, technology, and organizational changes.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with functional programming is a plus.
