About the position

Zitara is at the forefront of addressing the climate crisis through innovative software solutions that enhance the safety and reliability of battery operations. As a Senior II Data Engineer on the Platform Software Team, you will play a crucial role in managing and analyzing one of the most comprehensive battery performance datasets globally. This dataset comprises terabytes of electrical and thermal data collected from various battery systems in the field and in our lab. Your work will involve designing and implementing data transformation and analysis pipelines that cater to complex physical data sources, automating data capture from physical systems, and developing tools for data entry and quality maintenance for our lab and test engineering teams. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Zitara's R&D teams, ensuring that the technology you build is observable and scalable. You will be expected to engage immediately in one or two specific well-defined projects while also helping to define future projects that will streamline operations as the company grows. Your contributions will directly impact how our customers utilize their batteries more safely and efficiently, ultimately supporting a renewable energy revolution. Your expertise will help us continue to build safety-critical firmware and large-scale machine learning systems that empower our customers to manage their battery deployments effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Understand complex data and operations problems across multiple disciplines and apply software engineering methodology to attack them
  • Make tactical decisions on scope and priority to effect a continuously-improving software system
  • Proactively elicit requirements and feedback with cross-functional stakeholders and produce necessary documentation to ensure system changes meet operational needs and can be adopted
  • Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to best practices in a software engineering team

Requirements

  • Bachelors' in technical subject or equivalent proficiency
  • 5+ years experience in industry data engineering
  • 3+ years experience in one or more of the following specialties: Proficiency in time-series databases, Automating data collection, storage, and validation, Organizing and managing large, complex data sets, Creating data and operations dashboards
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL-based relational databases, and AWS services
  • Experience shipping robust internal tools
  • Clear and effective written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Creative problem solving with limited resources and engineering constraints

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETL, ELT, or pipeline orchestration tools such as dbt, Dagster, and Airflow
  • Experience in batteries, IoT, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering
  • Experience writing software tools to automate physical processes
