About the position

The Senior IMS Database Administrator is responsible for creating, maintaining, designing, monitoring, and troubleshooting client databases, particularly in IMS environments. This role involves performing database software upgrades, day-to-day maintenance, and optimizations to ensure database efficiency and integrity. The administrator will also coordinate with vendor personnel to resolve database issues and participate in on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and troubleshoot client databases.
• Perform mainframe database software upgrades and administration.
• Monitor file extent growth and schedule reorganizations.
• Create backups and perform restores of databases.
• Develop and implement database recovery mechanisms and procedures.
• Coordinate security measures to safeguard database integrity.
• Conduct general reporting and analysis of database efficiency.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities for database support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of professional experience in IMS for administration and systems programming support.
• Extensive experience with CA and IBM tools for IMS.
• Knowledge of best practices in software management and documentation.
• Experience configuring and managing IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.
• Ability to establish policies and procedures for database management and security.
• Experience troubleshooting and solving production database issues.
• Knowledge of IMS database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM.

Nice-to-haves

• System programming knowledge of multiple DBMS's.
• Familiarity with IBM's IMS performance Analyzer product.
