About the position

The Senior Industrial Engineer position at Tesla involves supporting global Factory Design projects with a focus on Material Flow System Design and Layout. The role requires the use of 3D simulation software to design and optimize material handling systems, ensuring efficient material delivery and factory layouts. The engineer will collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop solutions for material flow, assess congestion, and create detailed models for both manual and automated systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support global Factory Design projects for Material Flow System Design and Layout.
  • Use 3D simulation software to design material handling systems.
  • Design and simulate optimal material delivery systems at a system level.
  • Develop detailed material flow models for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering teams to ensure effective part delivery between production steps.
  • Detail manual solutions and conceptually model automated solutions for collaboration with automation design teams.
  • Develop innovative, cost-effective solutions with the packaging team for part presentation and sustainability.
  • Create 3D dynamic simulation models for bulk material handling systems.
  • Ensure equipment and layout designs align with the overall material flow plan.
  • Own design of layouts for each element of a material handling system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field, and 4 years of experience in simulation engineering within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree or equivalent in the same fields and 2 years of experience in simulation engineering.
  • Experience in material flow analysis and data-driven decision making.
  • Knowledge of material delivery methods including powered industrial equipment, automated guided vehicles, conveyor systems, and forklift-free methods.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to quantitatively solve ambiguous factory design problems at a systems level.
  • Proficiency in 3D discrete event simulation software (e.g., FlexSim) and AutoCAD for layout development.
  • Experience with C language and implementing/improving manual and automated handling systems.
  • Familiarity with Catia, Solidworks, or Revit.
