About the position

The Senior Industrial Engineer position at Tesla, Inc. involves developing and optimizing material flow designs for new products and factory expansions. The role focuses on enhancing efficiency and safety in material handling processes while collaborating with various cross-functional teams to implement effective strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop end-to-end material flow design for the Bill of Materials for new products and factory expansions.
  • Design innovative material flow strategies for various materials across production lines.
  • Integrate forklift-free delivery strategies to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Improve and design models for predicting material handling labor, warehouse space, and equipment needs.
  • Perform capacity planning calculations for accurate resource and equipment planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Finance.
  • Challenge assumptions behind manufacturing designs using a first principles approach.
  • Design detailed material flow lineside layouts in collaboration with Manufacturing and Factory Design teams.
  • Develop cost-effective solutions for part presentation, packing density, and sustainability.
  • Design conceptual warehouse configurations for analysis.
  • Perform clash detection analysis for material flow routes in the factory footprint.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field, and five years of progressive experience in material flow, supply chain, or process improvement.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree or equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field, and three years of experience in material flow, supply chain, or process improvement.
  • Experience in developing layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
  • Experience with material handling equipment design or implementation.
  • Familiarity with discrete event simulation software such as ARENA or FlexSim.
  • Experience with forklift-free factory design systems.
