About the position

As a Senior Industrial Engineer at Burlington Stores, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing operational efficiency and driving productivity improvements. This includes developing and maintaining accurate engineered standards, defining and upholding "Best Methods" across job functions, and supporting business objectives through needs assessments and project implementations. You will also mentor and guide less experienced team members, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their roles. The position is based at our San Bernardino, CA Distribution Center, where you will be responsible for leading and executing the development and maintenance of effective engineered standards through time and frequency studies. In your daily responsibilities, you will define and maintain “Best Methods” for all job functions, which includes training both management and hourly workforce on productivity and work methods. You will support business objectives and expense and throughput improvement initiatives through thorough needs assessments, work methods flow analysis, and project implementation. Utilizing appropriate project management tools, you will plan, develop, and coordinate the completion of assigned tasks, delivering quantifiable results that align with the company's goals. Additionally, you will test new concepts to improve the flow and setup in the distribution centers, support the design and implementation of material handling equipment, and assist with capital projects by conducting work sampling, cost justification (Return on Investment), and cost/benefit analyses. Your role will also involve providing guidance to less senior engineers, facilitating team education, training, and the application of engineering principles, as well as assisting in the management of the productivity clerical team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the development and maintenance of accurate and effective engineered standards through time and frequency studies.
  • Define and maintain 'Best Methods' for all job functions including training of management and hourly workforce on productivity and work methods.
  • Support business objectives and expense and throughput improvement initiatives through needs assessment, work methods flow analysis, recommendations and project implementation.
  • Use appropriate project management tools to plan, develop, and coordinate the completion of assigned tasks and deliver quantifiable results.
  • Test new concepts to improve the flow and setup in the distribution centers.
  • Support the design and implementation of material handling equipment incorporated into existing, new and expanded network buildings.
  • Support capital projects when required with work sampling, cost justification (Return on Investment), and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Provide guidance to less senior engineers and be versed at team education, training and facilitation of engineering principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in projects related to process design, work measurement, productivity improvement, cost reduction and project implementation
  • Experience with work measurement methodologies and tools with an emphasis on time study expertise
  • Experience with Standard Data and Predetermined Time Systems (such as MTM, MOST)
  • Experience in best methods development and implementation
  • Experience with productivity tracking, data collection systems
  • Proficiency using SQL, R, or Python for coding and executing complex data analysis, including querying, manipulating, and transforming large datasets to generate actionable insights.
  • Experience in the maintenance of a management observation and accountability program

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred
