The Global Engineering & Facilities function at Biogen is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer who will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise in operational process improvements and modeling related to the utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the entire Industrial Engineering business process, along with the associated methodologies and tools. The Senior Industrial Engineer will develop and communicate manufacturing equipment productivity improvement plans based on business needs, equipment utilization, and efficiency indicators, as well as benchmarks. The position involves implementing and utilizing lean six sigma methodologies and real-life data-driven computerized manufacturing process models. This data will support investments in new manufacturing equipment or modifications of existing equipment, automation, or operating principles. The role will require close cooperation with various operational improvement stakeholders at a global level and interaction with senior management across all Biogen manufacturing sites. In this hybrid role, which can be based in either the RTP, NC facility or the Solothurn, CH facility, the Senior Industrial Engineer will create and maintain manufacturing process models using the Intelligen suite of software in collaboration with Site Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Manufacturing Engineering. The engineer will improve these models to include raw materials and utilities consumption, wastewater emissions (both quantitative and qualitative), and manufacturing labor associated with each manufacturing process step. Additionally, the engineer will set up tools and processes to collect, analyze, and validate real-life data from process equipment and operations to feed and confirm the models. The ability to interpret these models to identify bottlenecks and present analyses to stakeholders is crucial for determining the path forward. The engineer will also develop productivity improvement strategies and measurements based on business needs and industry benchmarks related to the utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities, contributing to cost of goods manufactured models based on manufacturing process models.
