About the position

As a Senior Instructional Designer at TEKsystems, you will be a vital member of a cross-functional team responsible for the analysis, design, and development of training materials tailored for our clients in the Education segment. Your role will encompass the creation of courseware and curricula that may be delivered through various media options, including online platforms, virtual classrooms, and instructor-led training (ILT). You will be expected to ensure that all training materials are completed on time and within budget, adhering to project plans and schedules. Your work will focus on effectively communicating learning objectives and ensuring that all materials are instructionally sound and grammatically correct. In this position, you will integrate innovative learning solutions that enhance retention and engagement, utilizing methodologies such as gamification, scenario-based learning, storytelling, and virtual reality. You will develop materials in accordance with an approved style guide and will have the opportunity to collaborate directly with vehicle and product makers. Your responsibilities will include identifying and writing terminal and enabling learning objectives based on job task analysis feedback, conducting technical research, creating instructional design documents, and developing quality assessment questions to confirm learning transfer. You will also be responsible for coordinating with graphics designers to identify visual assets that support technical concepts, creating video and animation plans for courses, and proofreading audio scripts for e-learning lessons. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical writing skills, and a strong understanding of adult learning principles to ensure that the training content meets the needs of the intended audience.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and write terminal and enabling learning objectives based on job task analysis feedback
  • Conduct technical research using various sources, including trade journals and interviews with subject matter experts
  • Create instructional design documents and storyboard presentations that provide proof-of-concept for teaching to identified learning objectives
  • Identify suitable learning activities and interactions that assist with knowledge retention
  • Write technical content at the desired level for the intended audience (7th grade)
  • Review completed work for content accuracy and adherence to adult learning methodologies
  • Keyword content into a digital asset management (DAM) system with accurate and searchable keywords
  • Develop quality assessment questions that confirm learning transfer meets course objectives
  • Add course content to presentation tools identified for delivery type (Captivate, PowerPoint, MS Word)
  • Coordinate with a graphics designer to identify visual assets that support technical concepts
  • Create a video/animation plan for each course, including required assets and video scripts
  • Create and proofread audio scripts for e-learning lessons and work with audio talent for final edits
  • Work with internal and external SMEs to develop simulators and props for live instruction

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design and/or Adult Education is required
  • A minimum of four years of experience as an Instructional Designer developing Online, Virtual Classroom, or Instructor Led Training may be considered in lieu of the B.A. degree
  • Excellent writing skills, including grammar, spelling, and content organization
  • Proficient use of ADDIE or other curriculum design processes (e.g., SAM)
  • Experience developing technical training content
  • Ability to perform job task analyses and training needs assessments
  • Awareness of current trends in curriculum design strategies
  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills
  • Active listening and adaptive communication skills
  • Interviewing skills to obtain information on technical processes and vehicle design

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional work experience in the collision repair or automotive industry is highly desired
  • Experience with software including Adobe Captivate, Cumulus, and MS Office
