About the position

The Sr. Instructional Designer at M&T Bank will play a crucial role in developing effective learning solutions tailored to various audience needs. This position requires the application of proven instructional design methodologies, including adult learning theory and recognized models such as ADDIE and SAM, to create engaging training content. The designer will be responsible for developing training materials that can be delivered through multiple formats, including blended learning, facilitator-led sessions, and web-based training. The role emphasizes the importance of adhering to M&T Learning and Development quality standards while leveraging innovative software tools to enhance training delivery methods. In this position, the Sr. Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with Learning Consultants and Subject Matter Experts to conduct thorough needs analyses. This collaboration will help define overarching training goals and specific objectives necessary for developing both synchronous and asynchronous learning solutions. The designer will also demonstrate expertise in creating various training components, including text, graphics, animations, simulations, and assessment instruments, ensuring that all materials are of high quality and meet the needs of the intended audience. Additionally, the Sr. Instructional Designer will engage with organizational leadership to identify performance needs and provide consultative services. The role requires strong project management skills, as the designer will independently create and manage development timelines to ensure project deliverables are met. The designer will also take a lead role in change management, deploying effective methods to ensure the successful implementation of learning solutions across the business. The position demands a commitment to maintaining high-quality curricula and instruction while adhering to the company's risk and regulatory standards. The designer will be responsible for identifying risk-related issues and ensuring compliance with internal control standards. Responsibilities

  • Partner with Learning Consultants and Subject Matter Experts to conduct needs analyses for development of overarching training goals, requirements, and specific objectives to develop synchronous and asynchronous learning solutions.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the design and development of text, graphics, animations, simulations, and assessment instruments for training solutions.
  • Provide consultative services to engage with organizational leadership and determine performance needs.
  • Independently create and manage development timelines and milestones to ensure all requirements are met to achieve project deliverables.
  • Demonstrate expertise in communication and promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Take a lead role as a change manager, deploying change management methods within the business for the successful implementation of learning solutions.
  • Identify appropriate measurement and evaluation strategies for learning solutions.
  • Leverage LMS data, as well as HR and business line performance metrics to demonstrate learning outcomes and ROI to the business.
  • Ensure high quality curricula and instruction is maintained.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or certificate in Instructional Design and 5-7+ years' experience in training and development or instructional design. In lieu of a degree or certification, a minimum of 9 years' relevant experience.
  • Advanced technical writing and editing skills required.
  • Ability to author and edit content utilizing tools including Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills required.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a deadline driven environment.
  • Manage multiple projects at different stages, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum Design, or Adult Education.
  • Experience designing and creating web-based and/or video training for adult audiences leveraging Camtasia, Adobe Premier, Audacity, Vyond, and VideoScribe preferred.
  • Experience in training and development, technology, financial and banking services preferred.
  • Provides oversight of work performed by external vendors as needed.
  • ATD certification preferred.
