About the position

The Senior Instructional Designer position is a critical role responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of curricula and training programs aimed at enhancing employee performance across various functions. This role involves conducting thorough needs assessments to identify training requirements, selecting appropriate instructional models, and creating engaging instructional content tailored to the needs of the audience. The Senior Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop high-quality instructional materials and ensure that these programs are effectively implemented and evaluated for continuous improvement. In this position, the designer will engage in standard to moderately complex instructional design projects, requiring a minimum of four years of relevant design or development experience. The role demands a proactive approach to project management, including maintaining accurate project statuses, facilitating training sessions, and diagnosing potential risks to project timelines. The Senior Instructional Designer will also be responsible for creating comprehensive learning solutions that incorporate various delivery methods, such as eLearning, video, simulations, and instructor-led training, to meet specific business and performance objectives. Additionally, the designer will be expected to mentor less experienced designers, promote collaboration among project participants, and maintain current knowledge of industry trends and tools. This position is integral to fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organization, ensuring that training initiatives align with business goals and effectively address the diverse needs of learners.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with leadership team and business subject matter experts to design engaging learning that enhances business performance
• Partner with the business to create clear learning objectives in support of business goals
• Design and develop high-quality learning content to meet the needs of the supported audience
• Conduct reviews of training materials to ensure learning objectives are met
• Provide enhancements and revisions to existing materials based on SME/Stakeholder feedback
• Maintain current knowledge of latest industry tools and processes
• Collaborate with assigned L&D Staff, Manager(s) and/or Director(s) to create quality training deliverables
• Actively participate and/or facilitate in in-person or virtual meetings as needed to support learning projects
• Maintain accurate status of projects, milestones, and tasks in the team project tracking tool
• Facilitate in-person or virtual 'train the trainer' sessions
• Diagnose and escalate risks to design projects to appropriate L&D leaders and stakeholders
• Design and develop comprehensive learning solutions, incorporating multiple deliverables (online, video, simulations, Instructor-led, Virtual, etc.), to meet business and performance objectives
• Develop storyboards to support eLearning design
• Manage all functions of eLearning design, including storyboarding, scripting, assessment, and multi-media inclusion
• Create and implement evaluation plans to demonstrate business impact of training initiatives
• Achieve and model team quality standards in all aspects of learning design while managing 3-5 projects at a time
• Proactively partner with internal customers to determine performance and training needs
• Design instruction that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners and groups of learners
• Manage external resources to maximize cost effectiveness and quality
• Promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among the participants of a project
• Serve as a mentor and/or knowledge resource to less experienced designers
• Model the adoption of ongoing improvements in team processes and standards
• Develop partner relationships with SMEs and stakeholders to ensure that training meets expectations beyond initial implementation

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Learning or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of instructional design and development experience
• 3+ years of project management experience
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
• Critical thinking and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel, including Executives
• Ability to deal with the public in a professional manner
• Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Ability to leverage advanced and emerging digital learning tools, delivery methods, and platforms
• Ability to provide guidance and support to others on using designated technology to perform tasks
• Ability to select most effective tools, delivery methods, and platforms based on internal customer needs
• Ability to develop technical skills to increase personal capabilities, speed, and quality of learning interactions
