About the position

The Senior Instructional Designer plays a crucial role in enhancing faculty support and student success through effective instructional design. This position involves managing instructional design projects, providing pedagogical consultation, and leading professional development initiatives for faculty. The Senior Instructional Designer collaborates with various stakeholders to improve course design across multiple delivery modalities, ensuring high-quality educational experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provides pedagogical consultation, guidance, and support to faculty via the Center for Learning Excellence (CLE).
  • Manages campus-based instructional design projects that support student success.
  • Assists faculty in understanding effective instructional methods and supports institutional efforts for quality course design.
  • Collaborates with faculty on course and curriculum design initiatives.
  • Designs and conducts professional development and training opportunities for faculty.
  • Manages daily operations for the Center for Learning Excellence and supervises the Instructional Technologist and Instructional Support Specialist.
  • Facilitates a collaborative working environment for the Instructional Technologist and Instructional Support Specialist.
  • Applies instructional design models to develop online, blended, and traditional learning environments.
  • Provides consultation to faculty for quality course materials and learning objects.
  • Partners with the Assistant Dean to establish goals for the Center for Learning Excellence.
  • Guides faculty in developing outcomes-based curriculum and assessments.
  • Supports adjunct faculty development and engagement.
  • Conducts workshops for faculty on effective teaching strategies.
  • Explores new course design strategies and contemporary learning models.
  • Conducts needs assessments and usability analyses to evaluate design impact.
  • Collects and analyzes data related to the Center for Learning Excellence.
  • Conducts outreach to faculty to increase engagement with the Center for Learning Excellence.
  • Collaborates with college-wide staff on development initiatives and projects.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of experience designing and developing instructional experiences.
  • Experience with Blackboard or other course management systems.
  • Experience facilitating online or face-to-face workshops.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in adaptive situations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design theories and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of learning theory and adult learning theory.
  • Ability to develop effective instruction for various pedagogical orientations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Instructional Design or related field.
  • Experience working with curriculum and assessment.
  • Prior teaching experience in a college or university environment.
  • Experience creating successful online courses.
  • Experience managing direct reports or projects.
