About the position

This position is for a Senior Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer at Bechtel, where the successful candidate will be part of the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental (NS&E) execution center team. The role involves working on various projects that support government work across multiple sectors, including the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Energy (DOE). The engineer will be responsible for developing standard engineering deliverables such as logic and functional diagrams, instrument data sheets, material requisitions, engineering specifications, and instrument lists, ensuring compliance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. In addition to creating these deliverables, the engineer will support the development of piping and instrumentation drawings, assist in the location of controls equipment and instrumentation within a 3D model, and collaborate with other control systems engineers and various disciplines/functions, including clients. The position requires strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, and a proactive attitude towards innovation in design. The role is based in Knoxville, TN, with periodic business travel as required. The Knoxville Engineering Office serves as the engineering hub for the NS&E business, supporting multiple projects that contribute to the resiliency of the world's infrastructure and improve access to energy and vital services. Responsibilities

  • Review project design criteria.
  • Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
  • Prepare systems descriptions for the Control Systems discipline systems and review and prepare input to other engineering discipline system descriptions.
  • Prepare design change packages.
  • Prepare setpoint calculations.
  • Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
  • Prepare instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
  • Prepare control narratives.
  • Prepare digital and analog control logic.
  • Prepare functional block diagrams.
  • Populate instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
  • Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.
  • Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.
  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
  • Design control cabinet layouts.
  • Review of supplier provided data and documentation.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
  • Advise and guide junior engineers.
  • Lead specific design efforts.
  • Some travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience for Level 1.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience for Level 2.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).
