About the position

The Senior Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer will be part of Bechtel's Nuclear, Security, & Environmental (NS&E) execution center team, focusing on various government projects. This role involves developing engineering deliverables, collaborating with other engineers and disciplines, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and requirements. The engineer will be responsible for designing control systems, preparing documentation, and supporting project execution while maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review project design criteria.
  • Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
  • Prepare systems descriptions for the Control Systems discipline systems and review and prepare input to other engineering discipline system descriptions.
  • Prepare design change packages.
  • Prepare setpoint calculations.
  • Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
  • Prepare instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
  • Prepare control narratives.
  • Prepare digital and analog control logic.
  • Prepare functional block diagrams.
  • Populate instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
  • Design and application of tubing and instrument installations.
  • Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.
  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
  • Design control cabinet layouts.
  • Review of supplier provided data and documentation.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical) and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
  • Advise and guide junior engineers.
  • Lead specific design efforts.
  • Some travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college with six (6) years of progressive related control systems design engineering experience; or in lieu of a degree, twelve (12) years of progressive related control systems design engineering experience for Level I.
  • Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college with nine (9) years of progressive related control systems design engineering experience; or in lieu of a degree, fifteen (15) years of progressive related control systems design engineering experience for Level II.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, ISO-9001, or AS-9100.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards (e.g., ISA, ASME and/or ANSI/IEEE).
  • Extensive knowledge of Control Systems Engineering work processes, design deliverables, and specifications.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Willingness to travel on business trips in support of projects.
  • Current (not expired) Professional Engineering License.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
