About the position

The Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems used in various industrial applications, particularly in nuclear power plants and chemical processing facilities. This role involves preparing design specifications, conducting engineering analyses, and utilizing advanced software tools for system design and PLC programming. The engineer will also provide technical leadership and support to junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and quality assurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instrumentation and control systems for industrial applications.
  • Prepare design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, and system descriptions.
  • Perform PLC programming using Rockwell Automation RSLogix/Studio 5000 and HMI development.
  • Conduct engineering analyses related to electrical systems and equipment.
  • Develop test strategies and prepare test plans and procedures.
  • Analyze equipment to establish operating data and evaluate results through experimental tests.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software, including AutoCAD and MATLAB.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and document solutions through flowcharts and diagrams.
  • Support existing products by troubleshooting and conducting failure analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience as an instrumentation and controls engineer.
  • Strong technical writing skills and proficiency in MS Office programs.
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI design using Rockwell Automation software.
  • Ability to design and engineer complex electrical systems, particularly in nuclear applications.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and UL 508A.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 for PLC programming.
  • Knowledge of electrical analysis packages like ETAP or SKM.
  • Expertise in EMI MIL standards and IEEE grounding standards.
  • Active PE License and willingness to stamp designs.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers.
