About the position

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer position at Hunt, Guillot & Associates is a critical role that involves working onsite for an Oil & Gas client in the Houston, TX area. This position requires a highly skilled engineer who can perform I&C engineering tasks with minimal oversight from the lead engineer or supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a variety of instrumentation deliverables, including Instrument Indexes, Datasheets, Cable Schedules, Panel Layout & Wiring Drawings, Location Plans, and Loop Drawings. Additionally, the engineer will be tasked with creating automation deliverables such as System Architecture Drawings, I/O Lists, Alarm Lists, Control Narratives, and SIL Verification documentation. In this role, the Senior I&C Engineer will also develop electrical deliverables up to 480VAC, which includes Motor Schematics, Panel Schedules, Switchgear design, and One-line diagrams. A significant part of the job involves reviewing all I&C and electrical documents for accuracy and quality, ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards. The engineer will participate in various studies and reviews, such as HAZOP, LOPA, and Alarm Rationalization, to ensure safety and compliance in all engineering processes. The position also requires the development of I&C Requisitioning Documentation, Technical Bid Tabulations, and Supplier Documents. The engineer will lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for control systems, either at the manufacturer’s site or the plant site. Field surveys to document existing conditions are also part of the responsibilities, along with developing engineering estimates and proposals. The Senior I&C Engineer will work closely with project teams, clients, and suppliers to resolve any technical issues related to instrumentation and controls, making this a dynamic and engaging role within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Performs I&C engineering tasks with minimal oversight from lead engineer or supervisor.
  • Develops instrumentation deliverables such as Instrument Indexes, Datasheets, Cable Schedules, Panel Layout & Wiring Drawings, Location Plans, Loop Drawings, etc.
  • Develops automation deliverables such as System Architecture Drawings, I/O Lists, Alarm Lists, C&Es, Control Narratives, SIL Verification, etc.
  • Develops electrical deliverables up to 480VAC such as Motor Schematics, Panel Schedules, Switchgear design, One-lines, Cable Schedules, etc.
  • Reviews all I&C and electrical documents for accuracy and quality when developed by others.
  • Attends studies and reviews such as HAZOP, LOPA, & Alarm Rationalization.
  • Develops I&C Requisitioning Documentation, Technical Bid Tabulations and Supplier Documents.
  • Leads FAT & SAT for control systems at manufacturer or plant site.
  • Performs field surveys to document existing conditions.
  • Develops engineering estimates and proposals.
  • Works with project teams, Clients, and Suppliers to resolve I&C technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Must possess a current P.E. license.
  • Minimum 10 years in the oil and gas industry working as an I&C engineer.
  • Working knowledge of current automation technologies for DCS, SIS, FGS, including remote I/O for at least one platform.
  • Working knowledge of complete wiring design from instrumentation to processor.
  • Working knowledge of automation networking, with both fiber and copper media.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Experience working with Clients and Suppliers to resolve control system technical issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cyber Security, Machine Monitoring, Functional Safety, or other specialized areas of knowledge.
