About the position

As a Senior Instrumentation/Control Systems Engineer at BASF, you will play a crucial role in the Catalyst and Adsorbents Evaluation group, which is part of the Process Catalysis & Adsorbents Scale-Up North America R&D group located in Beachwood, OH. This position is centered around the development and implementation of testing programs for heterogeneous catalysts and adsorbents, supporting various R&D projects, ensuring catalyst quality assurance, and contributing to manufacturing and catalyst improvement efforts. You will be responsible for overseeing reactor unit design, modifications, and related construction activities, as well as troubleshooting reactor units and managing overall laboratory operations related to reactor unit functionality. In this role, you will provide essential instrumentation and controls engineering support for the laboratory, which includes automation using SCADA software applications such as iFix, Citect, and Ignition. Your expertise will be vital in specifying, configuring, and troubleshooting programmable automation controllers (PAC) and programmable logic controllers (PLC). You will also demonstrate your in-depth technical experience in process instrumentation and controls, particularly with pressure, temperature, level, flow, and process analyzer measurement technology. Additionally, you will direct the activities of 1 to 2 direct reports, ensuring effective team management and project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee reactor unit design, modifications, and related construction activities.
  • Troubleshoot reactor units and manage overall laboratory operations related to reactor unit functionality.
  • Provide instrumentation and controls engineering support for the lab, including automation using SCADA software applications.
  • Specify, configure, and troubleshoot programmable automation controllers (PAC) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Demonstrate technical experience in process instrumentation and controls, including measurement technology for pressure, temperature, level, flow, and process analyzers.
  • Direct the activities of 1 to 2 direct reports.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in laboratory operations or chemical processes.
  • Well-developed troubleshooting skills in instrumentation for diagnosing I/O-related issues within PAC, PLC, and remote I/O systems.
  • Experience with small diameter tubing, compression fitting assembly, and system construction.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing computer hardware.

Nice-to-haves
