About the position

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in upgrading and modifying control systems for nuclear power plants. This position involves working on major process controls engineering projects, focusing on digital systems, instrumentation specifications, and mechatronics to enhance plant functionality. The engineer will also mentor less experienced engineers and ensure client satisfaction through site visits and meetings. This role is hybrid, requiring in-office work three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Work on major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants.
  • Develop functional requirement and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Evaluate process instrumentation replacement reports and create nuclear modification packages.
  • Design control systems for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors.
  • Attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure client satisfaction with work products.
  • Mentor less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineers.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with coursework in instrumentation, mechatronics, and process controls design engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering for process control systems, preferably in nuclear power plants.
  • Experience with controls system design for low and medium voltage distribution systems and equipment such as turbines and pumps.
  • Knowledge of power plant instrumentation and controls systems design for BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine and feedwater control.
  • Ability to review design drawings created by others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital control systems including PLC, DCS, and touchscreen displays.
  • Familiarity with network switches and control systems in a nuclear power context.
