About the position

The Senior Control Systems Engineer at HDR will lead project teams in the design and implementation of building management systems (BMS) and automated facility support systems. This role involves coordinating with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive control systems solutions across various market sectors, including technology, healthcare, and life sciences. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing design teams, managing project schedules and budgets, and ensuring quality control throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Leading control systems design teams to produce deliverable packages for several concurrent projects.
  • Writing/editing instrumentation and controls specifications, selecting instrumentation, and developing sequence of operations.
  • Creating control system drawings and coordinating the work of control system engineers with the multi-disciplined team.
  • Tracking financial aspects of projects and ensuring work is completed within budget.
  • Conducting design development and contract document working sessions with clients.
  • Establishing and maintaining client relationships and participating in marketing and design meetings.
  • Mentoring junior staff members and providing Quality Control (QC) reviews of control system designs.
  • Reporting project status, performance, and quality updates to the Control Systems Section Manager.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Control Systems related field.
  • PE required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of applicable experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing BMS systems.
  • Network design experience.
  • Knowledgeable of control systems and sequence of operations for building systems including Mechanical/HVAC, Electrical/Power Monitoring, Lighting, etc.
  • Knowledgeable of multiple communication platforms and protocols including BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Ethernet-I/P.
  • Knowledgeable of cybersecurity considerations in control systems.
  • Knowledgeable of network, PLC or DDC hardware and software, and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software used in Building Management System applications.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture.
