About the position

Air Liquide, a world leader in gases, technologies, and services for Industry and Health, is seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation Engineer/Specialist to lead maintenance strategy and improvements for the Hydrogen business line. This role is critical in supporting the company's safety, health, environmental, and quality programs and policies, ensuring accountability for their performance within the plant, Instrumentation and Electrical (I/E) department, and maintenance department. The successful candidate will collaborate with planners to develop work scopes for Turnaround (TAR) activities and secure adequate resources for preventative, predictive, and planned maintenance activities, primarily focusing on I/E while working closely with the planning team, scheduler, and operations to ensure smooth execution of maintenance activities. The Senior Instrumentation Engineer/Specialist will perform monthly audits using Maximo for newly generated corrective work orders, providing sound technical solutions to site I&E technicians. This position involves developing and maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for maintenance activities to demonstrate compliance rates and mean time between failures. The role also includes leading all activities associated with instrumentation for planned plant outages and providing plant startup assistance and coverage. A strong emphasis on safety is required, as the candidate will instill safety practices in others and model good safety behaviors. Additionally, the Senior Instrumentation Engineer/Specialist will facilitate open communication among facility technicians regarding best practices, operational needs, safety issues, and sharing operational knowledge. The role requires close collaboration with operations or the Plant Manager during exceptional maintenance events, conducting acceptance Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) with operations and maintenance, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with documentation and record retention policies. The candidate will also be responsible for troubleshooting motors, switchgear, instrumentation, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), communicating directly with Purchasing and the National Warehouse regarding parts and inventory levels needed for scheduled work orders and TAR PM orders. The position demands a high level of service and work performance while promoting a positive and cooperative team environment that fosters creative problem-solving and shared learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance strategy and improvements for the Hydrogen business line.
  • Support all company safety, health, environmental, and quality programs and policies.
  • Develop work scopes for TAR's and secure adequate resources for maintenance activities.
  • Perform monthly Maximo audits for corrective work orders and provide technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for maintenance activities to show compliance rates and mean time between failures.
  • Lead activities associated with Instrumentation for planned plant outages.
  • Provide plant startup assistance and coverage.
  • Instill safety practices in others and model good safety behaviors.

  • Assist operations or Plant Manager during exceptional maintenance events.
  • Conduct acceptance PSSR reviews with operations and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with policies.
  • Troubleshoot motors, switchgear, instrumentation, and DCS.
  • Communicate with Purchasing and National Warehouse regarding parts and inventory levels.
  • Ensure all labor hours, materials, and notes are accurately recorded within CMMS.

Requirements

  • 2 year technical degree or engineering degree preferred; high school diploma required.
  • Minimum 8 years I&E experience in a plant environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and calibrate analyzers, transmitters, control valves, etc.
  • Basic understanding of the facility's control system and ability to develop detailed understanding.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and safety aspects of MCC/switchgear.
  • Basic understanding of the facility's process and ability to develop detailed understanding.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
