About the position

Parsons is currently seeking to hire a Senior Instrumentation Engineer to join our water/wastewater consulting engineering group in Pasadena, CA. This role supports project delivery primarily in California and allows for hybrid remote work, meaning you can work 2-3 days per week from home. The Senior Instrumentation Engineer will provide instrumentation and control engineering services, which include design, preparation of design drawings and specifications, interdisciplinary review of design documents, construction support services, and commissioning support for control systems associated with wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations. In this position, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the design of process and instrumentation diagrams, control strategies, control system network diagrams, control system input/output lists, control panel drawings, and commissioning procedures. You will also respond to contractor requests for information during the construction of facilities, verify that equipment meets design specifications, prepare design changes, and support startup and commissioning during construction. This role is critical in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Responsibilities

  • Provide instrumentation and control engineering services including design, preparation of design drawings and specifications, and interdisciplinary review of design documents.
  • Support construction services and commissioning for control systems associated with wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • Design and oversee the creation of process and instrumentation diagrams, control strategies, control system network diagrams, and control panel drawings.
  • Respond to contractor requests for information during construction and verify that equipment meets design specifications.
  • Prepare design changes and support startup and commissioning during construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related engineering field.
  • 5 years or more experience in instrumentation and control system design of wastewater treatment plants and/or industrial engineering environments.
  • Registered electrical or control system engineer preferred or eligible to obtain registration in California within 6 months.
  • Good knowledge of the wastewater treatment and conveyance environment and the nature of design and construction related thereto.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive experience in developing process and instrumentation diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, and installation details.
  • Experience in sizing and selection of control valves and primary elements for process control.
  • Experience in developing instrument data sheets and PLC input/output lists.
  • SCADA system design experience using various communication technologies including ethernet and fiber optic networks.
  • Experience in developing control panel wiring diagrams and control schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to write technical specifications and conduct independent field investigations.
