About the position

The Associate Scientist position within the Insulation Research and Innovation team at Carlisle Construction Materials (CCM) focuses on developing innovative technologies for sustainable polyisocyanurate insulation. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to support current business needs and drive future technology development, ultimately contributing to the growth of the insulation product line.

Responsibilities

  • Leading multiple Innovation and New Product Development projects critical to grow the insulation business.
  • Leading research activities on new and existing products as well as identifying and implementing new technologies within the insulation group.
  • Utilizing advanced material characterization techniques to establish structure property relationships of polymer materials.
  • Managing the technical projects from ideation through scale up to commercialization.
  • Supporting the insulation business through new product development, processing and performance improvement, raw material qualification and cost reduction projects.
  • Collaborating with sales, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, warranty departments and CCM staff on defining project priorities, project scope and future development directions.
  • Publishing technical reports, conducting technical presentations, and championing safety.

Requirements

  • BS, MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, or Chemistry.
  • 5+ years of experience in the development of polyurethane/polyisocyanurate products and their associated processing technologies is a plus.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physical, chemical, and mechanical behavior of thermoset polymers, with specific knowledge of polyurethane/polyisocyanurate chemistries being a plus.
  • Basic statistical and data analysis skills, understanding of structure property relationships of polymers.
  • Experience with FTIR and rheological analysis of polymers.
  • Experience in formulating for polyurethane/polyisocyanurate systems.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience conducting trials in a manufacturing environment as well as executing experiments on lab and pilot-scale equipment.
  • Experience working in a phase-gate process for new product development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization.
