About the position

The Senior Insurance Analyst position involves advanced technical examination, evaluation, and analysis of complex insurance contracts, claims, and issues. The role requires reviewing company filings for compliance, conducting in-depth complaint investigations, preparing reports, and serving as a technical resource for senior management and industry stakeholders. The work is performed under limited supervision and requires strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate rate, rule, and form filings for compliance with Maine statutes and regulations.
  • Investigate and handle consumer complaints against insurance entities.
  • Serve as an information resource to assist insurance practitioners and consumers.
  • Analyze and present data to assist management, staff, and the public.
  • Represent the Bureau at meetings, seminars, conferences, and public outreach events.
  • Provide technical information and advice on property and casualty insurance matters.
  • Interpret controversial policy and regulatory issues to assist superiors in decision making.
  • Gather and analyze information to deny, approve, or modify filings and determine appropriate investigation activities.
  • Represent the Bureau and provide technical information to legislative committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and four years of professional level experience in the insurance industry, or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, terminology, and core operations.
  • Knowledge of insurance contract principles, practices, administration, benefits, and exclusion provisions.
  • Knowledge of insurance markets and trends.
  • Knowledge of the Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Knowledge of modern investigation methods and interview techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer software including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to act as lead worker and provide technical advice to others.
  • Ability to analyze and assess the propriety of property and casualty contracts, rules, underwriting guidelines, and rates.
  • Ability to determine training needs and prepare instructional materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and write clearly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with insurance contracts, claims adjusting, underwriting, agency, legal or paralegal, or related area.
  • Specific experience in Property and Casualty insurance.
