About the position

Draper is an independent, nonprofit research and development company headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with over 2,000 employees dedicated to tackling significant national challenges. The System Integration and Test (I&T) Engineer (SMTS) plays a crucial role in this mission by serving as the system integrator for various technologies and product lines developed using Draper's core capabilities. This position involves planning, executing, and managing I&T activities from the early stages of test concept development through to system certification. Responsibilities include functional simulation, subsystem and system integration and testing, verification and validation (V&V), performance evaluation, and acceptance testing. The System I&T Engineer will leverage multidisciplinary engineering expertise and collaborate with other Systems Engineers to establish clear, verifiable, and traceable requirements, which will inform and drive system concepts, architectures, and designs to promote testability. Additionally, the engineer will utilize resident expertise and lessons learned to support the development of highly reliable, robust, and complex systems. In this role, the engineer will take ownership of assignments and guide others as needed, successfully leading tasks while tracking priorities, scope, cost, and schedule. They will derive plans, approaches, and procedures for solving complex I&T problems across a program lifecycle, capturing all assumptions and adapting appropriately to changes in requirements with limited direction. The engineer will independently contribute high-quality content for technical reports and presentations, demonstrating an understanding of their tasks and an awareness of the intended audience. They will also identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies while actively mentoring less experienced engineers and providing thoughtful, constructive feedback. This position requires a curiosity-driven approach to solving complex, industry, and customer-driven problems as part of a multidisciplinary team, along with effective collaboration and communication skills with program team members, leadership, and non-technical personnel.
