About the position

The Senior Interior Designer at SmithGroup will lead design efforts for various projects, focusing on senior living environments. This role involves collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure cohesive and innovative design solutions. The designer will manage project scopes, schedules, and quality while mentoring junior staff and participating in recruitment processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design efforts for all stages of a project, including leadership with the client, contractors, and internal team.
  • Assist in management of projects through developing project scope, schedules, job production, quality, and fee management.
  • Lead programming, conceptualization, development and integration of strategic design solutions.
  • Consult with manufacturers, research and evaluate materials.
  • Document architectural drawings.
  • Assist in construction administration including responding to RFI's, preparing sketches and addenda (CCD's), and visiting the construction site to gather information and/or prepare a punch list.
  • Oversee the design work of others to ensure integrated and cohesive design, supervise preparation of drawings for all project phases, and ensure guidelines, quality control, standards and details.
  • Lead all phases of the design process including programming and developing workplace standards.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience.
  • Architectural or Interior Design registration required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign programs.
  • Technical competence and proven experience in schematic design through construction documents.
  • The ability to contribute and participate in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in Mixed-Use, Hospitality and/or Senior Living.
  • LEED AP preferred.
  • The ability to set design direction for junior staff.
  • A varied and flexible aesthetic that meets diverse client needs.
