About the position

The Senior Interior Designer for Healthcare plays a pivotal role in shaping the environments where healthcare is delivered, ensuring that design excellence and innovation are at the forefront of every project. This position is situated within a Top 5 global healthcare system renowned for its commitment to impactful healthcare research and delivery. The Senior Interior Designer will be based in either Baltimore, MD, or Washington, DC, and will be integral to the planning and design processes across multiple hospital campuses. In this role, the Senior Interior Designer will work closely with a diverse team of professionals, including healthcare planners and design colleagues, to provide inspiration and direction for a variety of projects. The designer will be involved from the initial stages of client engagement and programming through to the development of plans, designs, and construction documents for various projects, including additions, alterations, and renovations. This position requires a deep understanding of how interior design directly impacts patient care and outcomes, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces that are not only functional but also healing and supportive. The Senior Interior Designer will also be responsible for reviewing existing materials and providing guidance on interior design standards, including finishes and furniture selection. This role demands a high level of creativity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including hospital staff, contractors, and vendors. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with healthcare planning and design colleagues to advance the healthcare system's mission.
  • Provide design direction and inspiration for projects across multiple hospital campuses.
  • Engage in all phases of projects from initial client engagement to the development of plans and construction documents.
  • Review performance of existing materials and provide direction on interior design standards for finishes and furniture.
  • Interact professionally with hospital staff, contractors, manufacturers, vendors, and consultants.
  • Generate clear design direction and effectively communicate it to other designers and design professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Architecture (preferred) or equivalent education and work experience.
  • NCIDQ or Architectural Registration as required for professional practice.
  • Eligible for registration as a Certified Interior Designer (CID) in the State of MD.
  • 8-10+ years of design experience with a strong focus on Healthcare.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design, construction, operations, maintenance fields, and governmental regulations and codes.
  • Proficient with Windows, Email, Microsoft Office, Project Management software, and AutoCAD.
  • High level of problem-solving ability and information management skills.
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills at a college graduate level.
  • Ability to plan, research, analyze, coordinate, implement, and present project requirements.
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge of interior design within healthcare environments, including programming, space planning, FF&E, concept and design development, and detailing.
