About the position

The Senior Internal Revenue Agent-Senior Program Analyst position is a critical role within the Large Business and International Division of the IRS, focusing on the compliance and examination of large and complex businesses. This position involves planning, coordinating, and conducting thorough analyses of examination programs and tax law issues that pertain to businesses with significant assets, typically those exceeding $5 million. The role encompasses a wide range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and more, requiring a deep understanding of various business practices and tax implications. In this role, the incumbent will analyze business trends and practices to recommend and implement effective tax administration and auditing strategies. This includes monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of LMSB or TE/GE projects and strategies, assessing their impact on corporate and international taxpayers, and ensuring efficient use of IRS resources. The Senior Program Analyst will also identify emerging tax compliance issues and develop process improvements, reporting findings to IRS management. The position is designed for individuals who are ready to take on significant responsibilities and lead major project assignments. It requires a comprehensive knowledge of federal tax laws, accounting principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct analysis of examination programs and tax law issues involving large and complex businesses.
  • Analyze business trends and practices to recommend and implement tax administration and auditing strategies.
  • Monitor, review, analyze, and evaluate LMSB or TE/GE projects, strategies, and operations for effectiveness and impact.
  • Identify problems, best practices, and emerging tax compliance issues; develop and recommend process improvements.
  • Report results to affected LMSB or TE/GE and other IRS management officials.

Requirements

  • A Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a bachelor's degree in accounting with at least 30 semester hours in accounting.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a field other than accounting or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 4 years with at least 30 semester hours in accounting.
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the Federal service, involving professional accounting or auditing work.
  • Experience in applying professional accounting principles to analyze and interpret accounting records for federal tax liabilities.
  • Knowledge of federal tax law for individuals, businesses, and exempt organizations.
