About the position
The Senior Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM) Technologist at Houston Methodist is responsible for performing neurodiagnostic procedures in the intraoperative monitoring field. This role requires proficiency in various IOM modalities and the ability to independently conduct procedures such as SSEPs, TceMEP, EMG, and cortical mapping. The technologist also engages in patient assessments, provides exceptional patient care, and serves as a mentor to less experienced staff, ensuring optimal patient safety and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform neurodiagnostic procedures in the intraoperative monitoring field.
- Independently conduct IOM modalities including SSEPs, TceMEP, EMG, ABRs, Phase Reversal, and cortical mapping.
- Perform ambulatory and long-term monitoring EEGs and evoked potential procedures when not scheduled for IOM cases.
- Educate patients and staff about procedures and address any concerns.
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor to less experienced staff.
- Conduct patient assessments and recognize physiological effects on monitored activity.
- Monitor epilepsy patients and perform EEG studies as assigned.
- Charge accurately for procedures and manage patient data efficiently.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and contribute to department scorecard initiatives.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education, or completion of an Accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program, or an Associate's degree or higher in a science-related field.
- Two years of experience in IOM procedures.
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
- R-CNIM, R-EPT, EEG, or R-EEGT certification.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of digital equipment and electrical safety concepts.
- Basic knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office applications.
