About the position

The Senior Investigator for the District Attorney's Office in Mesa County is responsible for conducting a variety of investigations related to conventional crimes and assisting in the prosecution of cases from pre-filing through final disposition. This role involves collaboration with law enforcement, preparation of trial materials, and providing investigative support for homicide and domestic violence cases.

Responsibilities

  • Review felony and selected misdemeanor cases for strengths and weaknesses.
  • Provide trial support for major felony and selected misdemeanor cases as assigned.
  • Coordinate with assigned prosecutors to locate and interview witnesses.
  • Prepare reports regarding case analysis, witness interviews, and other investigation aspects.
  • Research a wide variety of records and related documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of trial exhibits and trial preparation.
  • Respond to homicide scenes as assigned and coordinate investigations with primary responding agencies.
  • Provide support to law enforcement agencies regarding their investigations.
  • Serve as a grand jury investigator as assigned.
  • Participate in the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) for Mesa County.
  • Conduct special investigations, locate and interview suspects and witnesses, and write reports regarding assigned investigations.
  • Participate in continuing education and research on technologies and current expertise available in investigations.
  • Prepare and execute arrest warrants, search warrants, and other court orders.
  • Transport witnesses to and from court as needed.
  • Be available for overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Colorado POST certification as a Peace Officer.
  • Five years of previous law enforcement experience, two of which must be at the level of Criminal Investigator.
