About the position

The Senior Investment Analyst at Cetera Financial Group is responsible for conducting retirement-oriented investment research and data analysis, collaborating with peers and senior leadership to provide exceptional service to institutional clients. The role involves producing detailed evaluations and actionable recommendations on various investment vehicles, including mutual funds and collective investment trusts, while also engaging in quantitative analysis to support ongoing projects. This hybrid position allows for a blend of in-office and remote work, with opportunities for client interaction and project leadership as the role evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Gain a deep understanding of the investment methodology employed by the team
  • Perform detailed quantitative and qualitative research on mutual funds, collective investment trusts, separate accounts, and other investment types commonly used for retirement investing
  • Support the team's recurring target date, stable value, and money market analysis
  • Schedule and conduct interviews with portfolio managers and other key investment team members to gather more information about investment products
  • Produce well-informed evaluations on the attributes of investment managers and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee
  • Follow news and regulatory filings on investment strategies and provide insights and analyses on the retirement industry
  • Collaborate on interdepartmental projects as needed, including preparation for new legislative rules implementation and related strategic programs
  • Participate in ad hoc requests such as investment review calls with institutional clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 5-7 years experience in analyzing mutual funds and other pooled investment vehicles
  • Proven experience in analyzing and reporting on investments used in defined contribution and 401(k) plans
  • Experience in investment consulting, retirement planning, or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills
  • Confident, self-motivated, and disciplined, with strong reasoning skills to make informed decisions
  • Big-picture thinker with a solutions-focused mindset, skilled in problem-solving, analysis, and guiding others
  • Results-oriented and fueled by intellectual curiosity

Nice-to-haves

  • CFA designation, or significant progress toward achieving the designation
  • Understanding of defined contribution reporting software and advanced knowledge of investment-oriented databases (e.g., Morningstar Direct, FI360) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated passion for investing and the retirement industry
  • Good grasp of retirement planning and understanding of ERISA regulations
