About the position

The Private Debt Research role at Mercer involves leading investment due diligence processes, managing private debt portfolios, and generating intellectual capital to support Mercer's global Investments platform. The position requires a strong analytical mindset and excellent communication skills, with a focus on serving a diverse client base across various sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive due diligence processes for evaluating and underwriting prospective primary funds, co-investments, and secondaries.
  • Conduct onsite manager meetings, plan due diligence, and perform reference calls.
  • Produce research reports summarizing views on strategies to determine appropriate ratings or recommendations.
  • Act as a private debt specialist in client meetings and pitches, presenting analysis and communicating team opinions.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the Investment Committee, clients, and external parties.
  • Monitor private debt funds and contribute to discussions on the value proposition of the Private Debt business.
  • Author industry research pieces and whitepapers to position Mercer as a thought leader in the Private Debt industry.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in Alternative investments, preferably in Private Debt and/or Fixed Income.
  • Experience at an alternative fund-of-funds manager or other asset owner/manager responsible for capital deployment in private debt.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in training and managing a junior team.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in private equity, investment banking, or other relevant fields.
  • CFA certification or strong interest in financial markets, investing, and macroeconomics.
