About the position

The Senior Engineer, Information Technology (IT) Manufacturing - Automation at Bristol Myers Squibb plays a crucial role in providing engineering and technical support for laboratory and manufacturing systems. This position is essential for ensuring efficient and compliant operations within the organization. Reporting to the Manager of IT Automation, the Senior Engineer will act as a technical resource across various departments including engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, IT, and validation. The responsibilities encompass incident resolution, database support, local network and infrastructure management, controls systems specification, programming, simulation and testing, troubleshooting, repairs, start-up assistance, and project documentation as required. In this role, the Senior Engineer will support new system deployments, completing deliverables during the design, delivery, and commissioning of good manufacturing practices (GMP) computerized systems at the Phoenix site. They will provide support to project teams related to IT Digital Capability department requirements, including user support models and data management. The position also involves generating validation and support documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Configuration Specifications, as well as executing protocols and test scripts for systems as required. Routine support for GMP computerized systems at the Phoenix Site is a key responsibility, which includes performing user and system maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of automation and GMP computerized systems. The Senior Engineer will identify process improvements for existing systems and work with management to initiate related projects. They will also initiate change controls and document changes as necessary, provide advanced training to system end users, and ensure systems are available for production use while minimizing downtime. The role requires interaction with end users, IT, maintenance, and other support groups while troubleshooting issues, and involves programming with Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI, and SCADA programming with various software packages. Compliance with health authority regulations and maintaining the qualified state of all equipment, systems, and facilities according to site policies and procedures is also essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support for new system deployments, completing deliverables during the design, delivery, and commissioning of GMP computerized systems at the Phoenix site.
  • Provide support to project teams related to IT Digital Capability department requirements including user support models and data management.
  • Support generation of validation and support documents such as SOPs and Configuration Specifications.
  • Execute protocols and/or test scripts for systems as required.
  • Perform routine user and system maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of automation and GMP computerized systems.
  • Identify process improvements for existing automation and GMP computerized systems and work with management to initiate related projects.
  • Initiate change controls and document changes/creation as necessary.
  • Provide advanced training to system end users.
  • Ensure systems are available for production use and minimize downtime to reduce impact to user teams.
  • Request quotes from vendors for approved equipment, software, and services.
  • Interact with end users, IT, maintenance, and other support groups while troubleshooting issues.
  • Program PLC logic and programming with Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI, and/or SCADA programming with various software packages.
  • Act as a representative for IT Digital Capability department during interdepartmental projects.
  • Support global projects that require support from IT Automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, or related applied science.
  • 5 years' relevant work experience required, preferably in a pharmaceutical or engineering environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Windows operating systems and laboratory specific applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IT fundamentals including networking, virtual server technology, backup and recovery, security, active directory, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Intermediate knowledge of coding and scripting, including PLC code and control software, including structured text on multiple platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT system support.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Software Design Life Cycle.
  • Advanced knowledge of software support.
  • Intermediate knowledge of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), GMP, Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP).
