About the position

The Senior IT Manager of Data Engineering is responsible for overseeing the technical management and delivery of data infrastructure and pipelines for a key financial system. This role involves leading technology modernization efforts, capability maturity, and talent development within the team. The manager will also ensure effective communication with stakeholders and manage vendor relationships to enhance customer value and achieve business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day work direction and allocate tasks to team members.
  • Serve as an escalation point to ensure success in assigned areas.
  • Assess new processes for alignment with technical areas and present recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage vendors and service partners to ensure compliance with service level agreements.
  • Provide feedback to team members for performance and talent development.
  • Build and manage relationships with key business and technology stakeholders.
  • Create a strategic vision for business alignment and improve processes to achieve goals.
  • Establish regular communication with executives and department heads regarding IT activities.
  • Develop and review budgets to ensure compliance with goals and objectives.
  • Benchmark and analyze IT infrastructure for improvement recommendations.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT initiatives.
  • Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities including hiring and performance appraisal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • 4+ years of people and vendor management experience.
  • 4+ years of project and delivery management experience.
  • Deep understanding of database design, data modeling, and ETL processes with 7+ years of practical exposure.
  • 2+ years of experience with Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience with Azure data platform technologies such as Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proactive problem-solving and strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Emotional maturity and resourcefulness as a team player.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data analytics.
