About the position

The Senior IT Project Manager for the Houston Health Department is responsible for managing large-scale, mission-critical enterprise technology projects. This role involves overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from initiation to handoff, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and budget. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, maintain customer expectations, and apply industry best practices in project management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and deliver healthcare project activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Update project management systems, tasks, and reporting under the ServiceNow platform.
  • Maintain customer expectations by delivering IT projects within the agreed upon scope, schedule, budget, and expected quality.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and cost estimates in project lifecycle and definition documents.
  • Develop detailed project execution plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Conduct project meetings and track project progress, risks, and issues.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and vendors regarding project status, risks, and issues.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables.
  • Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track vendor deliverables.
  • Provide technical and analytical guidance to junior PMO team members.
  • Oversee and guide PMO team members in project activities.
  • Control expenditures by gathering and submitting budget information and monitoring variances.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer with stakeholders during project and at closeout.
  • Contribute to division, department, and City goals by performing related responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology Project Management, Management and Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Greater than ten (10) years of directly applicable experience may be considered for substitution of degree requirement.
  • At least ten (10) years of technology experience demonstrating formal IT project management competencies.
  • PMI PMP certification may be substituted for up to two (2) years of professional experience.

Nice-to-haves
