About the position

The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for managing technical, software, and data-centric IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This role involves designing, planning, and coordinating work teams, while adhering to standard project management practices. The manager will work closely with project sponsors to understand business and technical objectives, create necessary documentation, and manage project scope and risks. The position requires strong leadership skills to build effective teams and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate IT work teams for project execution.
• Create project kickoff, progress, and close-out reports.
• Track budget and schedule progress using appropriate metrics.
• Establish project organization and methodologies, defining roles and responsibilities.
• Document risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Manage project scope and implement communication plans as needed.
• Build effective teams with the right technical and business-facing experts.
• Assign tasks to team members and evaluate outcomes.
• Communicate project status to stakeholders and sponsors.
• Identify, track, and resolve project issues and barriers.
• Provide technical support to project team members.
• Handle complex application features and technical designs.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of project management experience.
• Experience managing projects with 10 or more staff or multiple subprojects.
• Strong knowledge of information systems development life cycle and project management tools.
• Experience with Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
• Ability to translate technical terms for non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• PMP certification is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience working on State of Indiana large data, business intelligence, or software projects as a Senior IT PM.
• Experience managing projects within Azure DevOps.
