About the position

The Senior IT Systems Engineer - Cybersecurity will play a pivotal role in ensuring the security and reliability of Rocket Lab's IT infrastructure. This position is based at the company's headquarters in Long Beach, California, and involves the implementation, administration, and operation of various IT infrastructure and cybersecurity technologies. The engineer will work closely with the Cybersecurity team to ensure compliance with security frameworks while enabling the business to operate efficiently. The role requires a balance between maintaining robust cybersecurity measures and supporting the operational needs of the business. The Senior IT Systems Engineer will provide subject matter expertise in cybersecurity systems, lead upgrades and maintenance efforts, and assist in project planning and deployment related to cybersecurity initiatives. This includes supporting vulnerability management and incident management functions, ensuring compliance with Rocket Lab's cybersecurity policies, and maintaining clear documentation and reporting on vulnerabilities and incidents. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IT and cybersecurity frameworks, with a focus on continuous improvement and effective support for the organization's cybersecurity needs. Responsibilities

  • Enable Rocket Lab Engineers to develop the next generation of rockets and space systems through the deployment and management of cybersecurity technology and policies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to deliver and support various Cybersecurity systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Lead upgrades and maintenance with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure a reliable and secure infrastructure.
  • Assist with and/or lead project scoping, planning, and deployment for Cybersecurity projects in support of Annual Operating Plan goals.
  • Support and contribute to the Vulnerability Management and Incident Management functions at Rocket Lab by developing and implementing standards for compliance with cybersecurity policies and customer security standards.
  • Ensure simplified and consistent environment management practices and effective support from the team.
  • Provide clear and concise reporting on vulnerabilities, incidents, remediation efforts, and support levels.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of environments and support, ensuring efficient cost control.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in IT and a bachelor's degree OR a high school diploma with equivalent years of experience (9 years of total experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in a platform-focused technology role.
  • Expert knowledge of Cybersecurity frameworks/technology: ISO 27001, NIST 800-171, IPSEC, SSL VPNs, firewalls, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialist qualification in area of expertise: CISM, AWS, Azure, Microsoft, etc.
  • Experience with AWS and/or O365 & Azure enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, VMware, Linux, Windows, Configuration Management, Automation, and/or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with Server and Storage hardware, Backups, HADRBC, Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Management (PKI), DNS, or DHCP.
  • Knowledge of Juniper or Cisco network switching and firewall setup, configuration, and management.
