About the position
The Senior Java Developer (AWS & Big Data) position is a contract role focused on backend engineering within a remote Agile development team. The role emphasizes leadership in coding, problem-solving, and fostering engineering excellence while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java and big data technologies, with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
Responsibilities
- Work on an Agile development team to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using deep expertise in distributed microservices and big-data technologies.
- Collaborate with the cross-functional team to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios and deliver technical solutions to those objectives.
- Develop API platform to serve big data at interactive speed, built on AWS using AWS Well-architected principles.
- Stay updated on tech trends, experiment with new technologies, and participate in technology communities to drive innovation.
- Demonstrate growth mindset, ownership, customer obsession, and strong judgement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or other relevant Engineering field.
- 10+ years' experience in Software Engineering with demonstrated leadership traits.
- 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or SQL.
- 2+ years' REST/web services experience and writing complex SQL queries against Relational databases.
- 3+ years of experience working with big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Presto).
- Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS), EMR Hive/Presto, ECS, Lambda, S3, DevOps and CI/CD, Jenkins, CloudFormation.
- Basic understanding of one or more scripting languages (Unix Shell, Python, Perl, etc.).
