About the position

The Senior Java Developer role is a leadership position focused on guiding a team of developers in data integration projects for Northern Trust's Wealth Management applications. The role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, including developers, architects, and project managers, to ensure best practices in coding and project execution. The candidate will work on new development, enhancements, and maintenance of systems that integrate data across key applications, utilizing various data technologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead development projects including estimating work effort and understanding cross-project dependencies.
• Monitor code quality, project documentation, and end-user documentation.
• Coordinate with testing leads to consult on the creation of testing strategies.
• Participate in team reviews of design artifacts and code, making changes as required.
• Prepare presentations of design approaches and participate in architecture reviews.

Requirements

• Excellent Java server-side design, coding, and code management experience.
• Experience with tuning and refactoring code and assessing architectural decisions on performance and scalability.
• Familiarity with Service Oriented Architecture concepts including microservices and service bus implementations.
• Experience with Spring modules: MVC, Aspects, Security, Data, Core, Boot.
• Ability to write a variety of database queries on different database platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of Financial Industry and complex data concepts related to Global Investments, Portfolio Management, Banking, Mutual Funds, and CRM systems.
• Experience with Javascript and/or Node.js.
• Familiarity with data architectures, data governance, and data management concepts.
