About the position

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Senior Juvenile Probation Officer for Circuit 13 - Probation & Community Intervention in Tampa, Hillsborough County. This is an internal agency promotional opportunity for current DJJ employees only. The position involves case management, referrals, recommendations, and assessments for youth involved with the juvenile justice system. The officer will engage with youth, families, victims, and law enforcement, conduct home and school visits, and utilize motivational interviewing techniques to assess the needs of the youth. The role requires documentation of all case management activities and collaboration with community resources and service providers.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate contact with youth, family, victims, and law enforcement upon receiving referrals.
  • Conduct home and school visits as part of the information collection process.
  • Use Motivational Interviewing to engage youth and families.
  • Obtain and review collateral information regarding youth's history and needs.
  • Conduct and document screenings and assessments to identify risks and needs.
  • Facilitate comprehensive assessments and refer youth and families for services.
  • Document all referrals and the acceptance or refusal of services.
  • Formulate case management strategies based on assessments.
  • Make service referrals and follow up on actions taken.
  • Prepare and maintain social histories, court reports, and related correspondence.
  • Testify at hearings and communicate court outcomes to affected parties.
  • Complete risk and needs assessments for youth.
  • Conduct face-to-face contacts in various settings.
  • Assist youth with accessing community resources and services.
  • Monitor a specialized client caseload and document all case work.
  • Participate in community collaboration and maintain communication with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Currently employed in the Department of Juvenile Justice.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or four years of experience working directly with adolescents in relevant fields.
  • An associate degree and two years of experience working directly with adolescents in relevant fields.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Required to maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of case management practices and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to provide counseling and guidance, develop case plans, and coordinate work assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting and completing Program Reviews or MQI Reviews.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University.
  • At least two years as a certified Juvenile Probation Officer.
