About the position

The Senior Kubernetes/DevOps Engineer at 1901 Group, a part of Leidos, is responsible for supporting the Enterprise IT Operations Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. This role involves working with a cross-functional team to enhance application containerization, manage CI/CD pipelines, develop infrastructure as code, and facilitate cloud migrations. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to improve cloud service implementations and contribute to both internal and customer-facing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Train independently and with the team to understand 1901 cloud CI/CD designs and processes.
  • Participate in Agile planning and daily scrum meetings.
  • Assist with cloud development pipeline designs and operational documentation.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for customer environments.
  • Understand Infrastructure as Code (IaC) requirements for ongoing projects.
  • Develop IaC and automation capabilities for customer environments.
  • Design and implement cloud-based deployment solutions for enterprise applications.
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing container orchestration environments, primarily OpenShift.
  • Implement and enhance pipeline processes including dev/test/prod builds/releases.
  • Assist with git process flows and continuous improvement of git approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience or Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
  • Proficiency in container technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration tools.
  • Experience with AWS/Azure native architectures and cloud services.
  • Proficient in Python or equivalent programming language.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI.
  • Strong background in Linux system administration, especially RHEL.
  • Commitment to best practices and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Capability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or RHCE.
  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift setup and administration.
  • Kubernetes Certifications (CKA, CKAD).
  • DoD secret clearance.
  • 8570 Level II Security+ CE certification.
