About the position

The Senior Lead Counsel - Regulatory role at Walmart is a pivotal position within the Regulatory & Specialty Legal team, responsible for advising business and leadership on existing and emerging regulatory frameworks. This role focuses on developing and implementing a consistent regulatory compliance strategy across various areas, including product regulatory, food safety, and licensing. The Senior Lead Counsel will collaborate with legal and compliance teams, manage legal risks, and engage with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement legal strategies to support business objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on regulatory issues across various regulatory regimes, including product safety and consumer protection.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting the retail industry and advise on their impact.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to regulated products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement compliance programs and policies.
  • Identify and assess legal risks related to regulatory compliance and propose risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage and resolve regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.
  • Provide legal support for product recalls and other regulatory actions.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and represent the company in regulatory proceedings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including product development and marketing teams.
  • Conduct training and awareness programs for employees on regulatory compliance issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate regulatory documents, agreements, and contracts.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on regulatory compliance status and legal risks.

Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and 7 years' experience in law.
  • License to practice law in at least one state.
  • Experience in a corporate legal department or a top-tier law firm.
  • Specialized knowledge from a regulatory legal role.
  • Previous experience in a senior legal role with leadership responsibilities.
  • Prior federal or state government experience.
  • 4 years' experience leading cross-functional teams.
