About the position

Navistar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Lead to join our team at our Powertrain Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL. The Senior Lead Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, development, and implementation of assembly equipment and processes to support the launch of a new powertrain platform. This position requires a proactive approach to engineering challenges and a commitment to excellence in manufacturing processes. In this role, you will support Advanced Manufacturing Engineering in various tasks including assembly layouts, equipment purchase, qualification, and installation. You will act as a representative of Navistar in a global production team, ensuring that the voice of production is heard in product development discussions. Your responsibilities will also include performing research, design, and development of manufacturing processes, which encompass production flow, assembly sequence, assembly methods, and production equipment investments. You will standardize manufacturing processes by benchmarking against other manufacturing facilities, ensuring that best practices are adopted across the board. Additionally, you will coordinate pre-series builds and the production launch of new products, which involves establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating and acting on results. Your efforts will contribute significantly to the accomplishment of plant quality objectives, making your role vital to the overall success of the manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Advanced Manufacturing Engineering in assembly layouts, equipment purchase, qualification, and installation
  • Act and represent Navistar in a global production team
  • Be the voice of production to product development
  • Perform research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly sequence, assembly methods and production equipment investments
  • Standardizes manufacturing processes by benchmarking other manufacturing facilities
  • Coordinate pre-series builds and production launch of the new product including establishing goals, training team member, and evaluate and act on results
  • Assist in the accomplishment of plant quality objectives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in product manufacturing
  • OR Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience in product manufacturing
  • OR at least 7 years of experience in product manufacturing
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States without sponsorship

  • Proficient with electric torque controlled fastening tools
  • Proficient with press equipment and processes
  • Proficient with launching new products
  • Competence with launching new products in an existing production line
  • Competence with maintaining and follow up project budgets
  • Competence with developing and maintaining project timelines
  • Competence with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling tools preferred Siemens NX
  • Experience with AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles)
  • Experience with presenting resolutions to quality issues
  • Experience with leak testing

  • Ability and willingness to lead and guide other professionals or colleagues
