About the position

The Senior Learning and Professional Development Specialist - Literacy at Public Consulting Group (PCG) plays a pivotal role in enhancing educational outcomes through the application of neuroscience in reading and literacy. This position involves leading the development of professional learning content that aligns with the International Dyslexia Association's Knowledge and Practice standards, as well as state and legislative requirements. The specialist will manage complex relationships with clients and partners, ensuring that instructional requirements are met while providing expert guidance on literacy and learning topics relevant to K-12 education. In this role, the specialist will collaborate closely with project management teams to implement established processes and structures, ensuring timely delivery of project deliverables. The position requires a strong focus on content development, where the specialist will provide actionable feedback to both internal developers and clients based on current research in the science of reading. Additionally, the specialist will establish and maintain productive relationships with various service agencies at local, state, and federal levels, contributing to the overall success of literacy initiatives. The role also includes leading research efforts, speaking engagements, and the development of service offerings, making it essential for the specialist to possess a deep understanding of literacy and learning, particularly in relation to emergent bilinguals and educational leadership. This position is remote, allowing for flexibility while requiring the specialist to maintain a distraction-free work environment and be available during set working hours. Some travel may be necessary for team and client meetings, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and effective communication in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides knowledge in the neuroscience of reading and leadership supporting professional learning content development process across one or more products.
  • Manage complex relationships across client and partner teams.
  • Collaborates with internal and client teams to develop and refine instructional requirements while also providing guidance to adherence to the International Dyslexia Association's Knowledge and Practice standards, state standards and legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with project management team to ensure that established project management processes and structures are appropriately implemented.
  • Contribute and collaborate on content development in client requirements, which may include offering regular review and actionable feedback, both written and verbal, to internal developers and the client regarding current research on the science of reading (SOR).
  • Support project management to ensure on-time delivery of deliverables by development teams.
  • Establishes good working relationship with local, state, federal and private service agencies.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on a range of literacy and learning topics relevant to applicant's background and the project (K-12 SOR Literacy, Family Engagement, Leadership, Support Staff).
  • Leads research, speaking engagements and service offering development.
  • Other tasks as to be determined by PCG management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Required).
  • Master's degree (Preferred).
  • 8+ years' work experience in developing, implementing, and managing literacy consulting engagements, LETRS Module 1 - 6 completion or equivalent, LETRS Trainer/Facilitator or equivalent.
  • Work experience in developing and delivering professional learning with a focus on Emergent Bilinguals/EIs preferred.
  • Certification: CERI certification or equivalent, ALTA certification, completion of an IDA accredited structured literacy program, or passing the KPEERI exam.
  • Subject Matter expertise in the neuroscience of learning and literacy that includes a background in cognitive science, neuroscience, pedagogy, structured literacy, coaching and adult learning theory.
  • Strong leadership, assertiveness, and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Writing skills are critical to the role and should include a focus on expository texts and citations.
  • Must be tactical in delivering project tasks under tight deadlines, with the ability to keep the big picture in mind at same time from a strategic perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple project streams in a cross-functional capacity.
  • Objective decision-making ability based on strategic objectives priority, business performance analysis, data analysis, and resource availability.
  • Self-starter, assertive, enthusiastic and has the political savvy to get things done yet maintain a likeable presence. Ability to deal with adversity and differing opinions.
