About the position

Join Adobe's dynamic team of attorneys and paralegals who provide essential legal counsel to the product teams developing and marketing our flagship offering: Creative Cloud, with a specific focus on Adobe's Digital Video & Audio business. Our creative customers rely on our products to produce inspiring photos, art, videos, and marketing materials. We are looking for a dedicated and energetic lawyer who possesses a positive attitude to support our product and business teams within the Digital Video & Audio sector. This role will involve close collaboration with product management, engineering, business strategy, and marketing teams, as well as colleagues in the Legal department, to provide comprehensive counseling on a variety of legal topics. The position is based in San Jose or San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, or New York, NY, and reports to the Managing Counsel. You will play a crucial role in advancing our clients' business objectives while managing legal and brand/reputational risks. In this role, you will collaborate with Adobe's business teams to review products, business strategies, and initiatives, ensuring legal compliance and providing practical advice. You will draft and negotiate various technology licensing agreements, including both inbound and outbound licenses and partnership agreements. Building and maintaining positive relationships with our product development teams will be essential, as will coordinating with subject matter experts in Adobe's Legal Department, including privacy, antitrust, and intellectual property attorneys. Additionally, you will develop and deliver training materials to various internal groups, including engineering, program management, and sales legal. Mentoring and providing leadership to junior lawyers and paralegals on the team will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Adobe business teams on the review of products, business strategies, and initiatives to assess legal compliance and provide practical advice.
  • Draft and negotiate all types of technology licensing agreements, including inbound and outbound licenses and partnership agreements.
  • Support and build positive relationships with product development teams.
  • Coordinate with subject matter leads in Adobe's Legal Department, including privacy, antitrust, and intellectual property attorneys.
  • Develop and deliver materials and trainings to various internal groups, including engineering, program management, and sales legal.
  • Provide mentoring, leadership, and be a resource for the team, especially for junior lawyers and paralegals.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience, particularly in the software and online services industry.
  • Confidence in negotiating and drafting various intellectual property agreements, including technology licenses, development agreements, and terms of use for online services.
  • Knowledge in privacy and data security issues and compliance, with experience in privacy by design preferred.
  • Prior experience with user-generated content services and mobile app development is preferred.
  • Technical background or a strong interest in software products and development.
  • A flexible, business-friendly collaborator who can think creatively and enjoys working with technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A commitment to providing high-quality and timely legal advice, with flexibility to tackle different types of products and services.
  • Ability to exercise common sense to provide practical advice; must be a creative problem solver with good business instincts.
