About the position

POWER Engineers is seeking a Senior Level Structural Engineer with a strong background in structural engineering to perform design activities for electrical substations. This role is based in the Power Delivery Substation Department in St. Louis, Missouri, and offers a hybrid work environment. The engineer will be responsible for various aspects of substation structural design, including preparation of drawings, specifications, and project coordination, while also supporting project management and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of substation structural design including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, and foundation design.
  • Develop steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
  • Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements.
  • Coordinate with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
  • Prepare calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs.
  • Support proposal development.
  • Mentor and train other team members.
  • Adhere to client standards and processes while completing complex designs.

Requirements

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
  • Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.
  • Ability to perform calculations to size steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Seismic design experience.
  • Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.
