About the position

The Contra Costa County Library is a forward-looking department of the County with 26 community libraries serving as the pulse of their respective communities. The Library is looking to fill vacancies for Senior Library Literacy Assistants at various locations throughout the County. Senior Library Literacy Assistants manage volunteer and student groups within Project Second Chance, the Library's Adult Literacy Program, to ensure programs run smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Managing volunteer and student groups effectively and tactfully
• Developing and managing projects
• Assessing the instructional needs of adult learners
• Coordinating special events
• Training and overseeing the work of volunteers
• Creating positive relationships with schools and community agencies
• Maintaining accurate records using an online database

Requirements

• Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, speech pathology and audiology, psychology, library science, communications, humanities, social science, business, or behavioral science field.
• One year of full-time experience or its equivalent in a literacy program or as a certificated teacher.
• Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
