About the position

The VA Women's Mental Health Champion is a mental health clinician with a specific interest and expertise in women Veterans' mental health. This role serves as the point of contact for women's mental health (WMH) at the William S Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized treatment of complex behavioral health disorders and is independent with DSM 5 diagnostic interviewing.
  • Incorporates multiple causation analysis with differential diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of veteran patients within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
  • Provides clinical care including individual, group, and couples psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with mental health disorders.
  • Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of clinical practice and services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services.
  • Renders clinical opinions based on experience and expertise, serving as the primary point of contact for female behavioral health at the Madison VAMC.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to maximize Veterans access to quality mental health care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and trainees in mental health settings and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications.
  • Identifies training deficits and/or ongoing clinical competency needs for staff in the mental health and social work service line program areas.
  • Communicates effectively with people from varied backgrounds and adapts practice accordingly.
  • Serves as one of the facility-level WMH points of contact and communicates with members of the national network of Women's Mental Health Champions.
  • Contributes to the growth and strengthening of VA's women's mental health community of practice and national network of Women's Mental Health Champions.
  • Maintains current, relevant clinical knowledge of women's mental health best practices.
  • Creates, implements, and monitors local program development activities to identify women Veterans' mental health service needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from a CACREP accredited program.
  • Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling.
  • Minimum of one full year of post-master's degree mental health counseling experience or a doctoral degree in mental health counseling or a related field.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Women's Health and Psychotherapy Experience is Preferred.
