About the position

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is seeking a Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) to provide management, coordination, and provision of social work and supportive services to Veterans and/or their families, and other duties as assigned. This individual is a member of an interdisciplinary team and is primarily responsible for the assessment and treatment of veterans with complex mental health, psychosocial, and/or medical social work needs.

Responsibilities

  • Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in psychiatry treatment programs or with special patient populations.
  • Experience providing one or more evidenced-based psychotherapy interventions to treat psychiatric conditions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy.
  • Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation to make differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
  • Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area.
  • Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients.
  • Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement.

  • Experience in clinical supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of theories and modalities used in the specialized treatment of complex mental illness.
  • Ability to teach, mentor staff and trainees.
